Did you know that a typical concert piano has over 240 strings? And that when a piano is tuned and all the strings are tightened to the proper tension this results in a pull of 40,000 pounds on the piano frame. That’s a lot of tension!
But without that tension, there would be no beautiful music. Yet, too much pressure on the strings can cause the piano frame to crack and will distort its sound. The piano models a good strategy for us in handling our every day stress. Probably a better strategy than what we Americans do when we consume over 20,000 pounds of aspirin a year.
Balance in work, exercise, diet, recreation, worship, and relationships keeps us in harmony. Over-commitments can knock us out of tune and distort the music of our souls.
