Aside from our own personal outreach, Benton First strives to use it's resources to support different local, national, and global outreach projects that are out there within the world, fighting to help those in needs. Not only do we seek to help the needy, we also help people experience the joy through both receiving and serving through these projects.
“What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” James 2:14-17
Take a minute to think about the verse above and explore each of our areas of mission and outreach projects. God gives us all gifts, so we must ask ourselves how we can try and give his love to a world that desperately needs it.
Many times we think of mission work as big scale projects that occur overseas or within areas that have experienced natural disasters. Although these projects are awesome and much needed, many of us just cannot commit to these types of projects due to responsibilities we have here at home. God does not call everyone for the same work, for he has a plan and opportunity specific to each of our lives.
The Book of Matthew chapter 9 shows a scene where Jesus goes into various towns and villages not only teaching the Good News but also healing people’s diseases and illnesses. At the end of the chapter, the writer tells us that Jesus had compassion on the people because they were helpless. So Jesus tells his disciples to pray for more workers because though the harvest is plentiful, those who are willing to work are few (Matt. 9:37).
The Lord has blessed Benton First, and the opportunities are great for us to extend these blessing right here within our community. Benton First has a number of active community outreach programs that aid and minister to those in need right here within our area that you can get involved with. Or maybe you are reading this now and didn't know about some of these projects and would like more information. Either way, all of our programs listed have contact information if you feel called to help or if you are in need of the program's services.
We all know that the United States is a big country and undertaking an outreach project would be a difficult feat on your own. You may ask “Where do you start” if you wish to get involved. Your in the right place!!
One of the first things we do is support the Memphis Conference of our own denomination, The United Methodist Church. With more than 425 churches and multiple cooperative ministries, the ministry of the Memphis Conference touches many lives. The funds provided from our church to the Memphis Conference supports so many programs such as
The needs are great within times of disaster both locally, nationally, and globally. In these times, we can help by volunteering, joining in focused prayer, and contributing funds. Benton First regularly establishes teams to help out in local area disaster relief efforts when needed, usually meeting at the church together and setting out from there.
Another way we are trying to reach out to our country is through fostering christian education within our church. As our members, both young and old, go out into the world through volunteering, work, and life in general, we believe that the christian values instilled through our programs and ministries will shine through. Ultimately leading those who may not know Christ as their saviour to form a personal relationship with him.
Every day, there are people in need throughout the entire world and you may ask how you could possibly help. Even though Benton First is not the biggest church around, we are commited to doing what we can to reach out to every corner of the world and spread the message of God's love.
We know we can't all become missions overseas or travel different places throughout the world, but we can use our resources of funding, love, and prayer to support those who can. Benton First proudly does this through a number of means such as:
Benton First is a member of a larger group of churches known as the Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Church. The Memphis Conference is also a proud member of the United Methodist Church.
